The Detail Academy is a five-month professional development program designed for people who want to build or improve a successful career or business in automotive detailing. Meeting one full day each month, the Academy combines hands-on technical training with the business, marketing, customer service, and professional skills needed to turn detailing knowledge into long-term success.

Why Detail Academy Is Five Months Instead of Five Days

If you want to become a professional automotive detailer, you can find plenty of training programs that will teach you detailing techniques. Spend several consecutive days in a classroom and shop, learn as much as you can, and then head home.

The Detail Academy takes a different approach.

Detail Academy is a five-month professional detailing and business-development program based in San Diego. Students attend one full day of training each month for five months. The program combines hands-on detailing instruction with business development, marketing, professional certification, assignments, coaching and ongoing support.

Why spread five days of training over five months?

Because learning something and actually putting it to work are two very different things.

Learn. Apply. Come Back. Improve.

After each Detail Academy module, students have approximately a month to put what they've learned into practice.

They can work on vehicles. Try new processes. Market new services. Find customers. Work on their business. Make mistakes. Discover what works—and what doesn't.

Then they come back.

Each new module provides an opportunity to discuss what happened during the previous month, troubleshoot problems, share individual discoveries, and continue building both technical and business skills.

Instead of completing five days of training and then going out on your own, you're developing over a five-month period with continued access to your instructor and the support of your classmates.

More Than Detailing Technique

The five modules progress from getting started and detailing fundamentals through complete interior detailing, exterior detailing, advanced paint correction and ceramic coating. Students also work toward multiple professional certifications, including IDA Certified Detailer and Skills Validation status.

But learning how to detail is only part of the program.

Throughout the Academy, students also work on the business behind the detailing: setting goals, developing services, pricing, marketing, finding and serving customers, and creating a practical Business Success Plan.

The objective isn't simply to become better at polishing paint or cleaning interiors. It's to help students create or improve a legitimate detailing business and develop a plan for long-term success.

You're Also Building a Network

Detail Academy enrollment is intentionally limited to a small cohort of participants. That allows more individual attention and hands-on experience, but it serves another purpose as well.

For five months, students learn alongside other people working toward similar goals.

Those classmates can become friends, referral partners, problem-solving resources and a professional support network that continues long after graduation.

Taught From Real-World Experience

Detail Academy is taught by Prentice St. Clair, who has not only provided retail detailing services for decades, but has also applied that real-world experience into training professional detailers since 1999. His background includes serving as a founding board member of the International Detailing Association, helping develop IDA certification curriculum, training detailing operations around the country and writing more than 500 published industry articles.
